Under The Influence: 2 Tone Ska

In the second episode of our series Under the Influence, we examine the late-70s ska revival in the UK, a movement built upon the fusion of punk rock and traditional ska. Led by the Specials, we look at how the cultural climate of the time period in the UK inspired the founding of 2 Tone Records and how that led to the ska movement in the 80s and 90s.

Under the Influence looks into some of the most important music scenes of our time, exploring the people, bands, and styles that changed the course of music forever. Narrated by modern day punk legend Tim Armstrong (Rancid, Operation Ivy, Transplants), Noisey delves deep into the worlds of New York Hardcore, British 2Tone Ska, and German Krautrock to find how these scenes were created, and how they continue to shape art, music, and culture today. Join us as we circle the globe to meet to everyone from x to y, to witness life under the influence.

RAWcumentary: Lagwagon & Swingin´Utters

Raw Cut Media har släppt en liten dokumentär om 2 legendariska punkband från Kalifornien, Lagwagon & Swingin´ Utters.

Last November we met up in Toronto with two legendary California bands, Lagwagon and Swingin’ Utters, to begin shooting a 3 day short documentary. Dave Raun, drummer of the almighty Wagon, greeted us outside of the tour bus when we arrived. Last time we saw Dave we were passing a tequila bottle around as we meandered our way down the Ottawa River on a pontoon boat at 2:00am, after a Motley Crue show. But that’s a story for another time…So, we made our way inside the Opera House to the backstage area, and met up with the rest of LW and the Utters. After loosening up with a few Jamesons, we got right down to shooting video. For the next 3 days, we called Lagwagons 45 foot tour bus home. We shot shows at packed venues, interviews in pyjamas and candid late night bus conversations. This mini doc is a behind the scenes look into the lives of two Fat Wreck Chords label mates, friends and long time musicians. Check it out. Party on.
